SAGE of the WILDER

“Like THE JUNGLE BOOK meets POKEMON set in a fantastical North American-like forest frontier.”

A fantasy forest world called the Wilder, filled with fun and imaginative wildlife. Here, people live in settlements that dot the edge of this fanciful frontier. They shoot at any of the strange wildlife that gets near their settlements. They love shootin’ at critters. It’s their pastime. Yee-haw!

But Sage, she’s totally different. Everyone thinks she’s so odd. She’s fascinated by the amazing wildlife of the Wilder. She loves to wander and explore the forests, looking for new critters to discover. She wants to find and befriend them all! She writes and draws everything about these critters down inside her little field journal - behaviors, habits, footprints, sketches and facts about each one.

She’s found many of the more common ones - jackalopes, wampus cats, giant raars, fleet footed dinguses, woofs and eastern ridgeback dargs; among other things. She has this special gift, an intuitive knack for finding wildlife easily. She just always knows where to look. This gift also has helped her befriend and communicate with them. She’s made friends with many of these critters, and her very best friend is even a skittish woof (named “WOOF”) that follows her everywhere.

There’s also a Huntsman she encounters from time to time, who lives far out in a lodge deep within the Wilder. His motives however, remain unknown. Is he friend or foe?

Sage is most excited about finding the rarest of these hidden critters - a bush dragon. Few people have seen one, they’re mostly known from old tales. They’re legendary guardian critters that are supposed to protect people, especially kids. Her late father used to tell her all kinds of tales about them. Though she barely remembers him, she remembers his tales just fine. He used to tell her how bush dragons could hide just about anywhere, behind any large bush, rock or tree. He even believed he was saved by one once. From time to time, while wandering in the Wilder, Sage believes she might’ve just caught a glimpse of a bush dragon out of the corner of her eye, though she can’t be sure. Were those twirling leaves over there from a sudden gust of wind, or did a bush dragon just leap out of sight? Deep down she feels they’re out there, and she’s absolutely determined to find and befriend one!

But the Wilder is a dangerous place, and not all critters want to be friends. As Sage adventures, she will discover the laws of the Wilder - its territories, laws, and become the one outsider that can speak for the Wilder Critters. There are also dark and nefarious hidden critters that don’t like being found. Some of these, like the shadowy critters called gloom, will do anything to stay hidden.

CLUMP - THE WANNABE HERO

No one really knows what Clump is, and he’s not really sure about it himself. But the one thing everyone is sure of, is what Clump ISN’T. Clumsy, socially awkward and famous only for falling and failing, Clump is the least likely to be seen as a hero. And yet, there is nothing that Clump melodramatically longs for more. Because in the Kingdom of Random, heroes are the thing to be.

Threatened continually by the robot armies of the evil Emperor Roach, the small Kingdom is the last remaining independent land that hasn’t been conquered by the Emperor’s forces of conformity. This is all due to the valiant efforts of the many heroes that protect the land - dashing swordsmen, legendary knights, and great warriors that keep these mechanized forces at bay. In this kingdom where all manner of strange and random beings congregate, these heroes are pretty popular, and even throw some great parties. Definitely something to aspire to.

And Clump aspires to greatness. To be seen as a real hero, not a loser. But constantly thwarted by his personal demons of low self-esteem, crippling social anxiety and poor fashion sense, Clump and his many neurosis can never quite succeed, or be taken seriously for that matter.

His efforts are usually met with a blank stare, dismissive laugh and a “Really, YOU?” in response.

And so clad in a makeshift suit of armor, upon his loyal canine riding mount, Faithful Steed, and with his self-help audio books in tow, Clump searches for adventure. If only he could discover where his ears are so he could listen to audiobooks with headphones!
